Governance

The association was established on 7 June 2011 as a common law association in terms of South African law. The founding document of the association is a voluntary non-profit organisation constitution registered with the South African Department of Social Development, reference number 096-079-NPO. The association is governed by a board assisted by professional management companies with relevant expertise in the field of association administration and governance.

The board consists of representatives from respective member companies, who are all independent participants in the energy market. The board meets on a regular basis and minutes are retained. Appropriate measures are in place to avoid anticompetitive activities within the ranks of the association. Regular risk reviews are conducted. Membership fees is the only source of income of the association.

The association is formally known as the Renewable Energy Certificates Market Participants Association of South Africa, often also using the acronym RECSA.  A copy of the  constitution of the association can be accessed here.
